About Lisa
Hi,
I am Lisa. I would like to think my friends consider my fun, loyal, and responsible.
I like ketchup. A lot. On most foods. It drives my husband crazy.
Silly puns and jokes make me giggle like I am five. Simple and silly practical jokes make laugh. I bought my husband a TRex costume and he first saw me walking the dog down our road as he drove home.
Musicals make my heart sing. I used to wonder what it would be like if people burst out into spontaneous song and dance. Then flash mobs happened and I didn't find it quite as exciting.
If I am sad or mad, you can find me at the beach listening to the waves until I feel better. However, I am a pretty positive and happy person.
Mint is probably my favorite color. I seem to want to buy everything in that hue.
At home, I love being under a blanket and playing with my pets or joking with my husband. I also love taking walks around our neighborhood or trying to make Pinterest projects that seem within my crafting ability level. I am not artsy, but crafty. I can follow directions like a champ.
I hope to see the world one city, state, and country at a time. Planning a trip always makes me excited. I have been to 12 countries and 24 states.
My family is pretty blended and extended. I was born in Germany, my mother's family is Mexican and I grew up in northern Alabama. My family believes in being well-rounded. Music, arts, sports, and community are important. I hope to expose our future child to many different activities until they determine what types of activities they prefer.
When I can, I love to read Young Adult (YA) books and review them for teachers and students in a blog. I can talk to most children about books for hours. In the classroom, I was known for being able to turn students into readers. I believe graphic novels belong in classrooms as much as regular print books. I love feeling a book in my hand.
I spent almost 10 years teaching 6th grade. Now I work with middle and high school teachers on incorporating reading strategies into their classrooms. For three years, I was a Teacher Advisor for Scholastic. One summer, I spent in Huntsville as a Educator Space Camp Trainer. Met teachers from all 50 states and over 30 countries. Science and Reading are my favorite subjects.
I have always worked with children. I taught gymnastics to 2 year olds when I was 16. I babysat through high school. I went straight into teaching. I love spending time with my nieces, nephews and friend's children. I coached cheerleading for 6 years.
I was raised in the Catholic church, but currently attend only on holidays. However, I believe in being kind, humble, and helpful and raising a child to be the same.
Florida State Football is something of a tradition in our house. I am an alumnus and we go to many of the games or gather with friends and family to watch them.
We love concerts, live music and fairs/festivals.
I love animals. Living in the country means that we have access to visit with goats, horses, and pigs in the neighborhood.
I have always wanted to be a mother. I knew at a young age that biological children would be difficult. Fertility treatments were never something I was comfortable with. I would rather partner with an expectant mom to give a child the best life that we possibly can. We are open to different types of adoption (Open, semi-open, closed). We will willingly work with the expectant mother's preferences but hope for some kind of openness.
I hope to hear from you!
